Ruins of the Castle and its Stables
Municipal heritage
Home of the Pérusse family, great servants of the "royal administration" from the 14th to the 17th century, the castle of Les Cars presents a singular profile in the Monts de Châlus region. Archaeological discoveries reveal the splendour of the site during the Renaissance while the ruins show the adaptation of the architecture to the use of firearms during the Wars of Religion.
Despite the revolutionary destruction, a group of remains, mainly consisting of two towers, pavilions and magnificent stables decorated with frescoes, remains accessible. An exhibition combining plans, models, archaeological furniture and a lapidary collection gives an insight into the site at the height of its splendour.
